What are some of the common signs and symptoms of ADHD in young people?

Inattention

  • Easily distracted: They may be easily side-tracked by both external stimuli (e.g., sights, sounds) and their own thoughts.

  • Time management skills: Managing time effectively can be tough for many young people with ADHD as they can underestimate how long tasks will take..

Hyperactivity

  • Restlessness or “always on the go”: Some young people with ADHD may often feel like they need to be constantly engaged in or doing something. This can sometimes present as fidgeting frequently or constantly being on the move.

  • Excessive talking: Some young people with ADHD may find that they talk a lot and may often have something interesting they want to share although they can also interrupt others or dominate conversations without realising it.

Impulsivity

Impulsive decision-making: Some young people with ADHD may find themselves making quick decisions or saying things impulsively, which can lead to undesired outcomes.

 FAQs

  • We know that assessments can be anxiety-inducing and it can be helpful for some people to have their family, partner or friend with them. We want our sessions to be as beneficial as possible and welcome the attendance of family members and partners in our sessions.

  • Only our team of HCPC accredited and experienced clinical psychologists with specialisms in neurodevelopmental conditions will carry out the assessments.

  • Opting for a private assessment can significantly shorten the waiting period compared to the NHS.

Another difference is that within the NHS, a GP or school referral is required for an assessment whereas people can self-refer for private assessments.

For the process and results of the assessments, there are no differences between NHS and private assessments. Our assessments is informed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). The high quality of our assessments ensures that the results can be used to guide ongoing treatment and support within the NHS and other agencies.
